Playing
How do I learn the rules?
Tap How to play on the home screen, or open the menu during a game. Each game has a few picture pages, one idea per page, shown with real cards. You can also read the rules of all four games on our games page.
Why can't I play the card I tapped?
Cards you can't play are dimmed. Tap one anyway and it shakes while a message explains why: usually you have to follow the suit that was led, or (in Leekha) you have to play a Leekha you're holding. With Hints on in Settings, the app also suggests a call, a bid or trump, and in 14 a Suggest button finds lay-downs for you.
Is my game saved?
Yes. Games against bots save after every move. Open the app again and tap Continue on the home screen (or in the game's setup) to pick up where you left off. Online games with friends aren't saved.
The bots are too easy, or too hard.
Each game's setup lets you choose Easy, Normal or Hard bots before you deal. Under Settings you can also change the game speed.
How do I change the sound, music or vibration?
Open Settings from the home screen or the in-game menu. Music, sound effects and vibration are set separately.
Playing with friends
How do I start a table?
Tap Play with friends, enter the name others will see, choose a game and create a table. Share the four-letter code (or tap Invite friends). Your friends tap Play with friends, enter the code and take a seat. When you start, bots take any empty seats.
What happens if someone's connection drops?
A bot plays for them straight away, and their seat is held for two minutes so they can come back and carry on. Each decision also has a 30-second clock; if it runs out, the bot makes that move.
A friend has an iPhone. Can they join?
Yes. While the iPhone app is on its way, they can play in Safari at https://play.highseasrings.uk and join your table with its code. For the best experience, tap the Share button in Safari, choose Add to Home Screen, and turn the phone sideways at the table.
Can people at my table see my cards?
No. The game runs on our server, and each player's phone only ever receives what that seat is allowed to see: your own hand, the cards on the table and how many cards everyone else holds.
Your data
What do you collect?
Very little. Your settings, statistics and saved games stay on your device. For online play, the name you choose and your moves pass through our game server and are gone when the table closes. There's no account, no advertising and no tracking. Our privacy policy has the details.
How do I delete my data?
Everything the app keeps is on your device. Uninstall the app, or clear its storage in your phone's settings, and it's gone. For the browser version, clear the website's data in your browser. We don't keep anything about you that needs deleting, but if you've emailed us and want that correspondence deleted, write to privacy@highseasrings.uk.
Still stuck?
Email support@highseasrings.uk. It helps to tell us which game you were playing, what happened, and your phone model (or browser).
