The games
Four games played with ordinary playing cards. In each one you can play against bots, or online with friends while bots fill the empty seats.
Leekha
A trick-taking game where the goal is to take as little as possible. Two cards are the Leekhas everyone fears:
- Q♠ the Black Leekha, worth 13 points
- 10♦ the Red Leekha, worth 10 points
- ♥ every heart, worth 1 point
Each round starts with everyone passing three cards to the player on their right. Follow suit when you can. If you can't follow and you're holding a Leekha, you must play it. That's how the Leekhas land on other people's tricks.
The game ends when someone reaches 51 (or 101). The lowest score wins.
400
Hearts are always trump. After the deal, every player calls how many tricks they'll take, from the minimum up to 10. The minimum rises as your score climbs, and if the calls add up to less than 11, the cards are dealt again.
- Calls of 2 to 4 score their face value.
- Calls of 5 or more score double.
- Miss your call and you lose the same amount.
With partners (sitting across from each other), a team wins when one partner reaches the target and the other is above zero. Solo, the first to the target wins. Play to 31, 41 or 61.
Tarneeb
Partners sit across from each other. Each player bids once: pass, or bid from 7 to 13 tricks, higher than the last bid. If everyone passes, the cards are dealt again. The highest bidder names trump (the tarneeb) and leads the first trick.
- Make the bid, and your team scores every trick it took.
- Bid all 13 and take them all: 16 points.
- Miss the bid, and your team loses its value.
- The other team always scores the tricks it took.
The first team to 31 (or 41) wins. If both teams cross the line on the same hand, the bidding team wins.
14
A rummy game with wild jokers. Everyone gets 14 cards, and the first player gets 15 and starts by discarding. On your turn, draw from the deck or take the top discard, lay down sets and runs or add to the ones on the table, then discard.
- Your first lay-down must be worth at least 51 (aces count 11, picture cards 10).
- Jokers stand in for any card; every set or run needs at least two real ones.
- Go out by emptying your hand. Everyone else scores the cards they're holding (a joker counts 25), or 100 if they never laid down.
Two players use one deck and two jokers; three or four use two decks and four jokers. The game ends when someone reaches 101 (or 201), and the lowest total wins.
